In-game professions and activities

There is no limitation placed on players in EVE Online where players have easy access to take part in any number of in-game professions and activities such as mining, manufacturing, trade, exploration and combat (both player versus environment and player versus player). Based upon training skills in real time, a character advancement system will gain benefits from a wide range of activities available to the player even at the time he is not able to not log into the game.
The Icelandic company CCP Games developed and operated the game which was first released in North America and Europe in May 2003 and published from May to December in the same year by Simon & Schuster Interactive. CCP then purchased the rights back and began to self-publish via a digital distribution scheme. On January 22, 2008, announcement was made that Eve will be distributed via Steam. On March 10, 2009 the game was released by Atari and made available in boxed form in stores.
